Nano Marine

I am looking into getting a nano marine tank set up one day. The fish I would be housing would be 2 to 4 Clownfish. What would I need to get to set up a marine tank?

I set one of these up at the shop the other day. We used a fluval Edge tank. I filled it with salt water and coral sand and left it for a few days. I then added about 1kg of live rock, left it for a few weeks til the cycle settled down, then added another kg. after about 6 weeks the ammonia levels were at 0 and nitrates were less than 5ppm. We then popped in a small Blenny and two Clarks Clownfish. Now its about 3 months old and well settled. we do a water change of about 10-15% every 3 days or so and check the salinity daily and other levels every few days.
If you are looking to add in corals then you will need to look at protein skimmers. Have a look at the Aquamedic range. There is the Yasha or the Blenny. I would go the Blenny as it is that bit bigger

It comes with a protein skimmer, powerhead, filter compartment and LED lights which are awesome! easy enough for corals!! -
I have been reading more on nano marine tanks. What size would you say that a nano tank is not a nano tank?

hrmmm, no idea...:(

Bigger than 1 square foot I would say Luigi..

Hey Mooo,
You don't think a square foot would be a bit............
Shallow??
Maybe a Cubic foot.

Then I thought it was pretty funny that Errol though sole or other flatfish, hillstream loaches for example, would dooo okay.
Here is a nice link to this type of fish for anyone interested in establishing a fast flowing shalloooo tank.

I like that idea. Is yours the 320 or 320T?
Luigi -
I went on Aqua One web site and also found the 340 pro which is very nice? What is the tank next to your 320?

Hey Bob, Love those 'sewellia' hillstream loach's they look unreal!!
-
Lovely fish, They do need a current I think, as they live in fast running waters..

I have been reading up on Hillstream loaches. Can they be housed in a cold water tank?

I think it was in a forum.

You probably better off with say a 3ft tank in marine and you will need a chiller as smaller tanks can fluctuate in temperature very easily.
You will also want a skimmer as it removes a lot of the pollutants in tanks for you.
If the tank is inside the house you quite possibly will not require a heater unless its the dead of winter and you are out.
You can have all the supadupe calcium additives and phosphate treatment but really I just do a standard water change once a week or two with a quality salt mix and thats about it.
Liverock is the key to a good marine tank and even sand base if you wish. All the tiny micro critters who help keep a tank cycled have to live somewhere and liverock and sand are good.
It does take several weeks for the critters to increase in number so use seachem stability daily and keep up the water changers until the tank looks stable, then add fish and corals in a rationed basis. You don't want to overload the tank too quickly.
Don't panic when it does the algae cycle, its all a part of it and will eventually die back. -
thanks for your advice. I really appreciate it.
