I have 2 black moors which have a white spot on their tails. I have treated them in the past with Aqua Master Multi Cure. Their are eating and swimming normal. Could it be white spot or ich? And I would like some advice on what treatment to use?

white spot is ich ...get the best..Protozin
-
Does Protozin discolour the water? Also, would I need to remove any active carbon?

Does anybody know what Sterazin is like for a medication for fish?
-
If treating with any Meds the active carbon will be needed to be removed. Never used Sterazin.

It is good, But it isn't for WS specifically, Do you know what you are treating?
It could be ammonia burn, it could be a fungus, it could be an injury...You must determine what it is before you treat...I would not use those multicures ... -
I have check the water perameters, everything is fine. I spoke to a person at Age of Aquarium, He recommended Sterazin.

Have you tried other methods first like daily water changes, Or adding a bit of salt..??
if so to no avail.
Go ahead and use sterazin., from memory it is a gradual treatment..use as per directions...You may get a cycle after treatment. -
I have done water changes twice a week and at one stage for a short period of time did three. I have been observing this one black moor for month's. I had another black moor with the white spot on it's tail. After treating it with aqua master multi cure. The spot disappeared a month or so after treatment.

Hi Luigi,
With white spot I have always used a "purpose" white spot cure, you can also add some salt and increase temperature, though this may carry some risk for your cold water fish. I boost tropicals to 30C.
Multi's don't give you the results you want. I find that you need to do "extended" treatments which cost money, put your bio-filtration capacity at risk and often do not do the job.
You may loose bio capacity with a dedicated white spot cure as well but you could load some of your media into your other canisters/filters and then put that media back into your black moor tank after treatment. This would save you from having to "cycle" your tank after treatment.

Could I put a heater in a coldwater tank?
-
Yes you can but then it won't be a cold water tank.
Can I stronly recommend this article for you. Excellent information regarding the life-cycle of the parasite and recommended preventative measures and treatments.

Note the use of raised temperature in tropical tanks but much more difficult to achieve and maintain fish comfort for your cold-water varieties.
