Suspected case of Velvet Disease in Platy

In the last few weeks my once dominant male platy is now submissive to the other male platy he once bullied. His fins are clamped, he has lost a lot of weight despite still eating and is cover in a milky film from his middle to his tail. I'm about to relocate him to my hospital tank. What should I treat him with? I only have Melafix and Pimafix, what other medication can I give to treat it, if it is Velvet Disease? Will I have to treat the whole community tank? Thanks

He sounds a bit far gone, he's been sick for a while by the sound of it..
I'd use the Fix it twins, see if you get any change for the better, If not you'll need something stronger, sounds like he's been weakened by something before he got the velvet or fungus..
Symptoms sound quite advanced, I am not confident it's going to survive itI would dose the main tank, just in case, I use it as a tonic sometimes

Here check out this site, http://mercurio.hubpages.com/hub/velvet-disease-rust-disease-gold-dust-disease if that fits to what you think it is then get on top of it ASAP, and yes treat the whole tank. As for dominant male me personally i would put him down, fingers crossed you got to it in time, good luck.Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes & dreams.

He seems a bit better, swimming up to me when I go near his tank, too soon to tell yet. He seems to have the symptoms of velvet disease, I just assumed he was getting thin because the other platy continued to harass him chasing him around the tank (like he was doing to the other platy about 2 weeks ago!) though he still had/has a good appetite. What parasite treatments are available in Australia? I use API products but can't find any API parasite treatments in Australia, the API General Cure isn't sold here, what's the best parasite medication?
My community tank is 48inX18inX18in and has an angel, a platy, 3 adult mollies 7 babies, 3 neon tetras, bristle nose catfish, 2 small yabbies, 2 freshwater mussels and 10 glass shrimp as well as live plants, amazon swords and java fern. Thanks again -
Seachem ParaGuard is supposed to be good for parasites and contains no copper, so should be safe to use with the invertebrates as well, i'm no expert with it as i've never had shrimp or mussels.Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes & dreams.

That's a 4 foot tank right? what filtration is running it?
The yabbies will eat your fish& will wreck you plants
The fish would be stressed having the yabbies in there also..leaving the fish open for infections.. -
The filter is an Eheim 2217. Had the yabbies for a couple of months, they're still quite small (5cm) and haven't harassed the fish or started on the plants as of yet. Taking care of them till my brother in law cycles his tank, then he's taking them back before they do damage in mine!

Oh that is better bout the yabbys, be careful what meds you use while you have yabbys in there .. make sure there is no copper
Hows the velvet patient?

The white film is gone and he seems fine now, swimming normally and still has a good appetite. I just used both the melafix and pima fix. Getting a bit worried about my molly in the main tank now, she's swimming upside down, somethings going on with her swim bladder
It's either a feast or a famine of problems with my fish!

Good to hear, although the Molly doesn't sound good [-O<
