Hi guys, Ive noticed in the last few weeks a lot of gill flashing in my malawi tank. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Not sure if gill flukes affect africans. Regardless of what it is, it seems to be really upsetting them as it looks very irritating for some of them. What am i meant to dose with? Ive dosed a couple of weeks ago with Big-L wormer hoping it was some sort of parasite but that hasnt really helped. Help much appreciated, thanks!!

Could be fluke, could be onset of whitespot , it starts in the gills
:-S
You could try Sterazin or Myaxin , dunno if I spelt those right :-?? -
Hi Jezza,
I have used Kusuri with good results for worms in discus.
Kusuri also have a product, Kusuri M for the treatment of fluke. Not sure if it is readily available but could be imported from the UK.

Hi Jezza,
Found the following couple of articles which give a bit of information, at least answer the question, yes Africans can and do suffer from gill fluke. There are a couple of suggestions for treatment and prevention also.
When first breeding discus I had problems with gill fluke and used praziquantel, I managed to get a good result in fry from 1/2 - 1 cm in size.
