Rainbow Shark loss balance?

I am not sure what is going on with my rainbow shark. He is in a tank with 3 silver dollar and 3 tiger barbs. I have had them all together since I bought them about 6 - 8 weeks ago. All are happy and healthy, all eating well, water quality fine. I feed twice a day different things each day, like flakes, frozen peas, frozen blood worms, algae wafers, freeze dried black worms. The only thing is that the rainbow seems to have some problem with his balance. He swims OK and goes in and out of his hiding places but sometimes he lays in the front corner of the tank and lists to one side instead of being upright. He is eating OK I think, he is not skinny, and forages around but it is when he is still that he seems to have this problem with balance. I What should I do?

Leave him.. it might not be anything to worry about, He could be sleeping, might be his fav spot :D
How much flow is in the tank?,he might be simply swaying in the current, Keep an eye on him tho, it could be a swim bladder issue :-S

I have good water flow, with the water return and a bubble bar. Just worries me as he looks fat and healthy but then just lays down. No fin clamping, no gasping. Maybe he just likes to scare me like the clown loaches do in the other tank. I know they like to lay around in all the odd poses but I get up close and check every time they do it!

    Hi Vicki,

"Water quality is fine" does not tell us a whole lot about what may be going wrong.

What are your water parameters for pH, Gh, Kh, Ammonia, NitrIte and NitrAte?

How do your parameters compare to the water parameters that these fish are normally found in?

Regardless of how good the water looks it may not be providing the fish with all that it needs, it may also be giving it more than it can cope with particularly in regards to ammonia and nitrIte.

    Regards,

    Bob

Thanks Bob, I will check them again, pH was 7.00, no ammonia on the weekend but I will do them again. The readings have not changed in the past 6 weeks.

If you readings haven't change in such a long time, I'd be checking the test kits are not failing :)
