Axolotl

Ordered these 29 August, still not received. Originally order wasn't showing on account and still isn't. Allina sorted the problem out, and received part order last Friday . However, axolotl still not received only advice of shipment and that they would be missing from the order and sent in due course. Have now sent two emails as to reason for delay and no reply. A bit more info than missing would be helpful, they were supposedly in stock so why the delay. Even asked for subs if not in stock but no reply. Not a good experience for a first order. Order came via Fastway not star express and I had to ring them on Friday as order was not going to be delivered until possibly Monday[ not good for live plants]. They do not abide by ETAS.

Hi Lyrobbo, stick around it's a good forum to hang in and share what you have in the way of tanks and fish, sorry you didn't get them in time for your Birthday :(
Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes & dreams.

Thanks for that, when I was looking for them i found this site and checked out the forums and liked what I found and already learnt so much from the members, so I ain't going anywhere. Absolutely love the forum just hope it all doesn't become an addiction. Eventually got one from a local supplier so the wait now won't seem so bad. Could not bear to see this big empty aquarium and are the cats happy now with another friend. Got him/her yesterday and its having a marvellous time in all the nooks and crannies and eating already.

Further, they're not that easy to get. I rang 10 stores before I could find one and only one and fortunately they were prepared to hold it for me. Due to my inability to get out my husband picked him up for me and I could not be happier.

Good for you,Lyrobbo glad it worked out for you \:D/ btw did you know you can turn an axoltyl into a salamander.

Does that mean it becomes an air breather. Would like to know just not sure how 7 cats would react to it running around the house and would not like to leave it in a "cage", don't like to see any thing caged unless it's necessary, one reason I won't have birds. >:)

No, i dont believe in caged birds either, apart from my chooks which are pretty much free range any way.Yes,an air breather it will become, the axolotyl is the only species that can reproduce in it larval stage. ;;)

Read that you need a steroid injection to change them and it's not good for them. Would you know if true and if is would go against my homaeopathic training. ~:>

you dont need to inject steroids. though is one way to do it. there are other ways if you are keen to do it. Not sure why though. the appeal of the axolotl is its funckyness as a larval form

Must agree I like Davros the way he is and would not want to risk losing him. Always liked these critters had one at work for about twenty years and when I left work brought him with me home in a bucket on the bus. Probably wouldn't be allowed on the bus now. Anyway he did live to a ripe age about 25 years pretty exceptional for an axy. >-)

I never suggested nor condone changing them to sallys, they are prone to disease and death when they are converted, much more interesting as larvae

Oops, I forgot to mention I like the pink Hawaiian lei around Davros's neck, all that's needed now is a Hula skirt, to complete the picture :-j

Hee, Hee, Hee don't think Davros would like that he's one tough macho axy despite his colouring. Assuming he's a male of course. Next purchase is a tardis so he can " exterminate" that doctor on his own terms. By the way is purigen a good product to use with algae problems. Do you know the easiest way to feed the axys, he only wants to eat out of my hand. Back in the old days just threw in the food and let it happen and my last one lived over 20 years. Now I want to do the right thing by him and now I want to learn good habits as I venture into this and further fish. Love the shark and alligator or is it the prehistoric crocodile. >-)

Davros the Dalek, exterminate the Doctor =)) . Purigen is great for the control of ammonia, nitrites and nitrates but not for algae, you could get a UV sterilizer which will kill algae but only if it's in the water column, not if it's attached to plants, tank or ornaments or do I do these days clean it by hand. I find it very satisfying when it's done and everything looks all clean :D

Oh that's supposed to be a Croc, his name is Bruce :)) and the Sharks name is Poopsie =))

Nothing and I mean Nothing can kill the doctor. Hate to appear ignorant but must learn somehow, what is the water column.Love cleaning by hand, really happy with the tank now, only problem now the cats can see Davros "very interesting",is there any type of gravel cleaner that will clean sand or don't they come that fine. Although I wouldn't mind one for my goldies. I must say I do like Bruce[ so Paleolithic looking], Poopsie looks too friendly[ never trust a smiling shark]. ^#(^

    Doctor Who :-/ Lol

water column = the water circulating in your tank and filtering system, Eg: canister filter, hang on filters, trickle filters. I have never used a gravel syphon, I've only ever used a hose to skim over the gravel.

You Beauty!!! Always good to meet another "DOCTOR" devotee. The tardis I'm getting has an open door so hopefully Davros will be able to look inside. I keep thinking there was an alien a lot like an axy but can't seem to track it down or am I dreaming? >-)

No way Tom Baker all the way, showing my age even made a scarf. Remember him as Rasputin. Wish there wasn't so much emotional stuff[ you know a bit too lovey dovey stuff with the companions] in the new ones. Also looking forward to the new doctor. Have you checked out the 50 year website [ some good merchandise there]. Looking at getting a red or yellow dalek from ebay. Thought the colours would look good with my new desert themed tank. :-q

Oh yeah, they have great stuff. I recently bought my 18y old daughter a handmade Dr Who costume from etsy. It cost me a leg and arm, but, it sure was worth it.

Davros is enjoying life, thought they didn't like too much current but he loves sitting in the bushes just under the outlet waving his little feet[ and don't they look like Davros's craw[ sorry hand]. I'll give them a little longer just in case. >-)
