6ft Tank Glass thickness
Hi I am looking to upgrade from my 3ft to a 6ft tank. The sizes I am looking at are 72"x18"x24" (520L) and a 72"x18"20" (430L).
Now the larger tank is going to be made in 10mm glass however it's getting quite expensive for me $460 just the tank. The smaller one will only be made in 6mm glass and that would cost me $299.
Now the concern I have is 6mm glass strong enough for that size? Is it common to only be made in that thickness? Just seems odd to me.
Advice? Thoughts?

Hi puma,
I think you need to fix the dimensions of the tanks
10mm is pretty much standard for 6' tanks, 6mm I'd stay well away from.Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes & dreams. -
ooops

All done.
Ok no worries well I guess thats why they are a lot cheaper then I wonder if they are prone to breaking. -
Don't go there ....My 5 foot 6mm was scary enough

Yeah, the only way a 6ft will be half passable in 6mm is with a double base on it and a lot of top bracings. looks a bit poor really.
Go to the 10mm -
Oh damm I had my eye on a good second hand one with a heap of gear going cheap.

I take it you had a bad experience Moo? I guess I don't want 400L and a 1000 bucks worth of fish on the floor.
Thanks for the advice I'll steer clear then. I don't get how they can keep making them if they are a bit shaky. This guy in QLD on monster fish keepers seems to make them him self and swears by them the thread is huge bit back and forth though.

Hey puma, that guy makes tanks for this company not bad stuff, but they don't polish the edges so you have to be carful not to cut yourself.

Thanks Heintz
I'm actually not in Brissy I am in Canberra just been reading around about thickness and what not. Yeah not a fan of un polished edges having them beveled or polished is a must!
Well thats that I guess I will be looking into a 10mm tank I want it to be secure I suppose if I am going to do it I might as well do it once and do it wright.
Soooooo anyone selling a 6ft in 10mm somewhere close to Canberra? I am happy to travel and pick it up if it's not too far -
I had a real bad experience mate
I was spose to be going on a Dolphin boat that day, woke up to find half a tank on the floor carpet all squishynot good oh did I mention I had the hangover from hell also
We had friends up from Melbourne and I should not drink lol & haven't since been 4 years I think lol

Puma ol m8, you said: too late! in your March 11 post, assuming you already have the tank, put it outside as a terrapin tank (half full) or for frogs? Cheers :P

Oh crap moo that crazy! 10mm min it is then!
Hi Frayk na I don't have the tank yet that comment was referring to my first post. I made a typo and had the same measurements for both tank sizes.
I just picked up a 2.5ft tank and canister filter for $50 so I have set that up to split the fish up a little until I can save up for the biggen.
