Yellow Lab Cichlid Exterior Wound

I put him in this tank to help him recover because he cops a bit from the other guys and has a banged up tail from getting chased off from the other big cichlids.
He has been in the hospital tank for about 2 days now and I noticed he developed this red wound just behind his eye. Also looks like there is a flap of white cotton wool hanging off it could be his scales.. Any idea what this is? I have put some melafix and pimafix in the tank as thats all I have anything else I should do?

A water change, a kick A airator, lots of bubbles in other words, raise the temp a coupla degrees, hope that helps,praps some salt? Doug, Mooo, Heintz, Bob, are you out there?

Hrmmm, few different thing that I am thinking. I would be going for a more serious medication cos it looks like a bacterial infection, similar to an ulcer. The white fluffy stuff could also be fungus so i would be going for a very broad scale medication, myxazin would be my suggestion

So will something like that nuke my bacteria in my filter? -
it will affect it a bit but right now the bacteria in the filter is the least of the fish's concerns. I normally dose with a bio-booster after a medication treatment to help the bacteria get back into the game.

Ok thanks doug seems to be healing up now it's not red anymore and it is hardly visible.

Just maybe he knocked himself on a rock or something?? I only mention that because one of my Severums has a nasty gash, when he decided to have a fight with some driftwood.Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes & dreams.

Yes there is a recipe on a local forum, made from Tea tree oil and water. and then about 7ml to 40ltr. I havn't made it up yet to try.

Contrary to popular opinion it is not made from the common Tea tree, Melaleuca alternifolia, but from Melaleuca leucadendra, also known as the Cajeput Tree.
