So we are still really new at keeping cichlids and we'll we have just found some eggs, BUT I thought the two fish that have paired up and had them were two different fish?? I did originally think the big fish was a Central American eartheater and the little one a jewel cichlid! But I got confused looking at all the different pictures and figured they had to be the same fish. A jewel cichlid. What's going on with my fish?? And now the eggs are getting eaten

The eggs may not be fertilized yet. Free food for the fish I guess.
If they're different species the likelyhood of decent fry is slim. -
We saw our electric blue trying to fertilise them too, will this make her eat them too?

Difficult to say really, I'd imagine that the eggs simply won't hatch and be eaten.

Female and male African cichlids are totally different in colouration
Are you sure the parents are a different species?

I think the male is a pearl cichlid and the female and s a jewel, but the eggs didn't become anything

Hi Rhiannon.
Could you take a few pics of the fish and post them here for ID, then someone here could tell you if they're American or African.Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes & dreams. -
How do I post a pic? I'm still learning this site
