Many aussie natives, do some research + also depends on where you live, if that's to hard......goldfish? Cheers.

Some smaller gudgeons are a good tank fish, also a Snake headed gudgeon although larger are ideal...Scientific name Giurus margaritacea....heaps of native fish sites around, cheers.

gudgeons is also a good suggestion. All of these are interesting fish i have never kept before. makes for a different point of interest

nice links. the rainbow is a beauty. I am leaning strongly to some of these.
the gudgeon you have links to are all way too big. they would have to be 5 to - 7 cm max to go in the paladarium. I suspect I will only have maybe 100 - 120 litres of water in it.
And a crab you reckon. somehow the wife might consider it more food than entertainment. maybe.
